Decorating Tips for Couples
Content provided by KnobStyle
Marriage itself is the personification of compromise. It stands to reason that couples must learn how to compromise when it comes to decorating and fixing up their homes.
Contrary to rumor, not all men are style-impaired or décor-phobic. Plenty of guys have a sense of what looks good and works great at the same time. Function and style go hand in hand. Since women rule the roost (an old-fashioned notion to some, but true nonetheless), it’s up to them to take their husbands’ decorating suggestions into consideration and not dismiss them outright.
For example, men tend to like loungers, but loungers may not work in a living room, which should be more formal. Pop culture paintings (think velvet Elvis or poker-playing dogs) may be too tacky for the bedroom but may work fine for the basement.
And speaking of basements, wives should designate a certain room as hubby’s space, whether it’s labeled a home office or study or recreation room. Basements and attics are ideal get-away locations. Allow your husband his space to decorate as he chooses.
The bottom line is couples must negotiate decorating issues the same way they’d deal with anything else: with respect.
